October is hands-down my favorite month of the year. The weather here in the Midwest teeters between luke warm and crispy cool, and the trees start to show off their gorgeous colors. The days are getting shorter and the temps are gradually heading down, so naturally my body craves comfort. Whether it’s a cozy sweatshirt or crawling into bed early to read a book, I’m here for it.
The feeling I crave this time of year is cozy. Here I’ll share some of my favorite ways to evoke that feeling.
My Fall Cozy List
Here are some of the things I like to do to embrace the cozy vibes of the fall season.
Light a fire. Whether it’s a fireplace indoors or a bonfire outside, a fire is an invitation to warm up and gather around. Watching the flames dance around feels meditative.
Wear your favorite sweater or hoodie. You know which one. That soft worn-in one that you never want to take off.
Enjoy a hot beverage. The hot seasonal beverage options are boundless. My favorites to enjoy are: hot coffee (always), almond milk latte with cinnamon, golden milk, chai roobios tea, and hot chocolate with extra whip, and warm spiced cider.
Watch a movie or show that gives you fall-feels. I like You’ve Got Mail, Harry Potter, Gilmore Girls, and the proverbial Hocus Pocus.
Embrace your blankets and pillows, literally. Snuggle up into them.
Spend time reading a good book. My favorite time to read is in bed before turning out the lights. Whatever time of day you prefer, set aside the time and immerse yourself in a good book. This is best enjoyed in combination with #1, 3, 5 and 13.
Bake something. Bonus points for baking something fall-festive like pumpkin bread or apple crisp. Theres nothing like a warm oven and the aroma of cinnamon spice filtering throughout the home.
Take a warm bath or shower. Then massage lotion into every part of your body, expressing gratitude.
Spend a weekend away at a cabin in the woods. This is the ultimate cozy situation. My family and I try to do this annually this time of year. The trees, the silence of no traffic, the stars, blankets, and a bonfire. This is it.
Make a pot of chili or soup. I enjoy this butternut squash soup accompanied with a warm kale salad.
Listen to a fall playlist. This one has been playing in the background of my life lately.
Make a fall simmer pot. Add water, cinnamon sticks, apple slices, and cloves to a small pot and simmer on low. The smell of fall will fill your space like potpouri. Just add more water to keep it going.
Light your favorite candle. My favorite fall candles are Gingersnap, Redwood and Cedar, Apple and Maple Bourbon.
Wear cozy slippers or socks. I did some research on the best rated slippers and grabbed a pair of these fuzzy moccasins for the season.
Journal about the season. Here are some journaling prompts:
My favorite thing about fall is…
What do I want to spend more time doing this season?
Describe your perfect fall day.
What images and smells come to mind when I think of fall?
What is your favorite fall memory?
How am I feeling this time of year?

Can’t stop eating the cake batter funfetti cookies I ordered from BakedAF Chi. If you’re local, I highly recommend! Her stuff is SO yummy and she uses only “real” ingredients - no artificial flavors, colors, or chemical sweeteners.
Wearing this barefoot dreams pajama set (pants and top) to get extra comfy on cool rainy days. I have the almond color and I went a size up from my usual for a looser fit. They’re a splurge, but I was lucky to find them on sale during the Nord Anni Sale this year.
When it rains for several days in a row, it’s time to break out the rain boots.
A warm soak and a good book…
